Mozambique’s government and UN partners reaffirmed support for green industrialisation at a Maputo workshop, according to the Economic Commission for Africa’s original release dated 15 October 2026. The saved source reports participants’ policy priorities and financing proposals; these are attributed statements, not independently corroborated investment commitments. The workshop reviewed regional studies under the UN Development Account’s 17th-tranche project on innovative climate action in Southern Africa. Government representatives, businesses, researchers, civil society and development partners considered how industrial development could support economic diversification, employment and climate resilience. ECA, UN Trade and Development and Mozambique’s business confederation, CTA, participated in the initiative. Industry State Secretary Custódia Paunde presented industrialisation as a central development objective, with greater productive capacity, domestic value addition and stronger participation by Mozambican companies in regional and global supply chains. She linked renewable-energy potential to the need for productivity gains, energy security and new industrial activity. The government also stressed inclusion of women, young people, smaller firms and local communities. ECA’s Olayinka Bandele argued for closer alignment of climate action, industrial policy and investment. CTA representative João Carlos Frade focused on the position of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, describing them as active participants in the transition rather than simply recipients of support. He identified financing difficulties and called for technical assistance, innovative financing mechanisms and blended finance to help turn opportunities into bankable projects. Nexus analysis The release identifies a project-preparation challenge: renewable resources and industrial ambitions do not themselves produce financeable enterprises. The proposed combination of technical support and financing is relevant to that gap. However, the workshop’s anticipated policy improvements, technology transfer and wider enterprise participation remain intended outcomes in this evidence, not demonstrated results or an announced funding package.
